What is multi-layer plastic?

Multi-layer plastic is a featured category. You can check your member dashboard or your Ridwell mobile app to see if multi-layer plastic is being picked up in your neighborhood soon.

Multi-layer plastic is crinkly, thick packaging that often contains food like chips, nuts, rice, candy, or pet treats. To keep food fresh, it's made of up to 11 layers of different materials, which makes it difficult to recycle.

We take your multi-layer plastic to one of our two recycling partners. Arqlite turns it into innovative gravel for landscaping and hydroponics systems, and ByFusion turns it into zero-waste building material.

Some examples of multi-layer plastic include:

  • Food bags (plastic bags holding things like nuts, dried fruit, or other snacks)
  • Frozen food bags (must be clean and completely dry!)
  • Plastic granola bar and energy bar wrappers
  • Chip bags
  • Plastic candy wrappers
  • And more! See the full list.

If you have an item you're not sure about, send a photo to help@ridwell.com and we'll be happy to assist!
